I love to waltz. Reminds me of the old dance halls I hung out in with sawdust on the floor. I love writing them too. Brings me back to a happy time.
I welcome all thoughts.
I really like the feel and story of this one! And I like how you turn it to the next generation.
A couple minor things: Line 1 makes me think you are talking about a picture on the wall. it might just be me.
also feel like “away” and “way” are a bit overused.
Really good work here!

Steve,
I love it. It tells a great story that is relatable. I love the waltz, too. Lately it seems I write more of them. This one is very good. Solid. I really like the turns on a dime line. Keep up the good work my friend.

Life is So Easy in Three Quarter Time © 2017 Steve Parry
I remember the picture, so clear in my mind
Wakin’ early with daddy, before he’d head to the mine
It was dark when he left, and when he’d get back home
You could tell by his face, how tired he had grown
But on Saturday night, all his care fell away
He would head to the dance hall, and the fiddler would play
His life was so hard, but it turned on a dime
Cuz life is so easy in three quarter time
He’d reach for my mother, and they’d move in a way
That the 1 2 3 beat, would make her dress sway
Around and around, they would dance through the night
It made all of the work, he did seem alright
On Saturday night, all their care fell away
They would head to the dance hall, and the fiddler would play
Their life was so hard, but it turned on a dime
Cuz life is so easy in three quarter time
As I sit at my desk, in a place far away
I can almost hear daddy and the things he would say
Work real hard, and provide what you can
The things that you do, are the measure of a man
And on Saturday night, my cares fall away
I go to the dance hall, and fiddler will play
My life may be hard, but it turns on a dime
Cuz life is so easy in three quarter time.
