Beautiful song.  Great story.
Could there be one or more measures between the verse and the chorus?  Some sort of more build up before you dive in to the chorus?

Over all, beautiful!!!!

Hey Brett,

I like this alot, great as is, maybe a short bridge with a little more info?...2 thoughts I have is a pew is place where many prayers are uttered & pews get tears on them, a line with maybe “clouded tear stains” or “tears stain this polished pew” would be nice on a bridge to take it home.  Just a thought

Great lines and imagery, and some wordplay to boot!  I found myself wishing for a human story though.  An old man who has gone through phases of life-childhood, restless teen, missing 20s, married thirties, kids, widowed… Gone. Then it’s a relationship song with a narrative and not just a collection of strong…uh… furniture.

What’s there is fantastic, but after the reveal, the trick was over for me.

Great catchy song. I never really looked at a church pew like that. Even though I’ve spent alot of time in them, I always took for granted it was there. It really takes you back to memories God made with just a simple pew.

Old Church Pew

Written by Brent Baxter

(Bill Whyte, Nathan Woodard, Brent Baxter)

There’s a plate on my side
Dated 1959
And I’ve been in this room ever since
I’ve watched mercy find her place
Seen and heard amazing grace
And I’ve felt the weight of sin lift
And every time I’ve sat empty, you’ve been missed

CHORUS:
I’m just an old church pew
A scarred blocked of wood God chose to use
I’ve got a role to play, just like you
Yes, I’m just an old church pew

I could have been anything
The pulpit on that stage
The piano that plays “Just As I Am”
But when weary souls need rest
Or a place to bow their heads
I give them the Bible off my back
And I wouldn’t trade anything for that

CHORUS x 2

I’m blessed to be an old church pew
